World Travels with 5 Kids

In our last update, there had been a miraculous cancellation at the U.S. Embassy in South Africa and we were able to apply for Nehemiah’s passport right away. Jesse’s sister, Melody, arrived for her 2-week visit and we waited day by day for the call that the passport was ready. No one was nervous until we had 4 possible days left before we had to change our airline tickets. 3 days left. 2 days left. We were all supposed to fly out on Sunday and Thursday was the last day of the week that the embassy would contact us concerning the passport. Melody had to leave on Sunday – with or without us – meaning that Jesse’s mother and I would have to try to take all the kids and bags home by ourselves. It also meant spending a ridiculous amount of money trying to change our tickets. All of us unanimously agreed to not even think about making plan B. We would just trust God.

We went up elevators, down elevators, rode on a bus for 15 minutes, went through at least 5 separate security checkpoints, and all the while could hardly stop to use the restroom or get water. Then when we finally were seated on the runway in Dubai waiting to take off, Hosanna started throwing up! (Turns out she had too much food and juice). Once we were in the air, the flight went well. We were so eager to reunite with our family members once we touched down in Orlando but instead were greeted with a customs line that didn’t budge for over an hour! But God’s grace was on us and we made it through that trip!
